DAY 1: Kilimanjaro Airport – Tarangire National Park
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro airport, you will be met by your guide. This is a year-round park with distinct seasons offering different experiences, from dusty, dry and baking with animals clustered around the rapidly reducing river, to the fecund green season full of new-born animals and chattering birds. A lot of migratory animals aim to reside here during the dry season. You can see groups and herds of animals like 600 elephants followed by zebras, buffalos and oryxes who ventured from the Maasai to the Tarangire in search for water. There are also a few lions prowling around and looking for unsuspecting preys around the jungle. Some of the other animals that you may see here are antelopes, warthogs, hippos, cheetahs, leopards, foxes, jackals and waterbucks.
Day 2: Tarangire – Ngorongoro National Park
Enclosed within its towering walls are grasslands, swamps, forests, saltpans, a fresh water lake and a glorious variety of birdlife. Here too are all the members of the ‘Big Five’ (lion, elephant, rhino, leopard and buffalo) as well as a large cast of plains game and one of Africa’s densest populations of predators. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the crater floor before driving back to your lodge for relaxation before dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Ngorongoro – Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast, depart to the beautiful Lake Manyara, a shallow alkaline lake that shimmers in a cleft in the Great Rift Valley. Tucked below the majesty of the Rift Valley wall, Lake Manyara National Park consists of a thin green band of forest, flanked by the sheer 600 m high red and brown cliffs of the escarpment on one side and by the white-hot shores of an ancient soda lake on the other. Acacia woodland shelters the park’s famous tree climbing lions, lying languidly among the branches in the heat of the day. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 4: Lake Manyara – Saltlick
After breakfast leave for Sarova Saltlick Lodge in Kenya. The jeep or 4*4 will drop you at the border where you will be picked by a safari van from Kenya. Drive and check in to Sarova Saltlick lodge for late lunch. The afternoon will hold yet more gamedrives in this sanctuary. Dinner and overnight at Sarova Saltlick Lodge.
Day 5: Saltlick – Diani
After breakfast, make last gamedrive whilst checking out of the Sanctuary. Drive to Mombasa with afternoon arrival at your coastal hotel.
